Sleeping on the Tour de France

I was curious about how much sleep cyclist in the Tour de France are getting, so I looked around and found this story in the Kokomo Tribune about the race-day lifestyle of American Chris Horner. I found his regular 8-9 hours of sleep per night coupled with caffeine use very interesting. Also today, The Detroit News has a cover story today about current American lifestyles and the effect on sleep. Dr. Alon Y. Avidan of the University of Michigan says that Americans sleep 20 percent less now than they did less than a century ago and that we pay the price with heart disease, diabetes, and obeisity. Finally, officer Darnell Williams is back in the news today as results become public of the internal affairs investigation that cost him his job. As was first reported here at SleepScience, it wasn't his sleep apnea that caused his car crash and confusion, it was the 4+ shots of whiskey he had before he started driving home! Have a great Tuesday. -Shawn
